About Staple Dough

Staple Dough opened its doors on December 23, 2022, coinciding with the opening of Megah Rise Condominium, when the keys were handed over to the rightful owners.
Founded by Tan Zheng Yi at 29 years old, Staple Dough Is an expression of his love for handmade pasta, a craving he picked up from his university days in Melbourne. Armed with a degree in marketing and a rich experience working in the food and beverage industry, Tan noticed the dearth of handmade pasta cafes in the market.
Realizing this gap in the market was the impetus for launching Staple Dough, and together with his two co-founders, Staple Dough opened its doors on 23 December 2O22. His partner Shawn Eng managed the finances and operations, while the kitchen was led by head Chef Hii Chuan Jiet.

The abstract logo leans towards its unique selling point, albeit handmade pasta. Reminiscent of the irregular pasta in a swirling artwork, its interior is an art form in itself, along with the clean and eye-catching plating that accompany each dish.
Ease of Parking
Since Megah Rise opened its doors, parking in Taman Megah has been nightmarish given the lesser parking spaces and influx in the number of vehicles.
To avoid having to scour the area for a parking spot, head straight to Megah Rise as there is plenty of parking there. Parking costs RM2 for the first 3 hours and RM1 after that from Monday to Friday. On weekends and public holidays, there is a flat fee of RM3 per hour.
Ambiance

Staple Dough’s clever use of deep hues lends the elegant interior a tavern-like, luxurious ambiance. Crimson overhead lights and down lights illuminate the open wine cellars, creating depth and space.
The expansive, open kitchen attracts your attention with lots of action. Here, freshly molded pasta hangs on a clothesline just before its cook to al dente perfection.
Together with the cozy atmosphere, Staple Dough is the penultimate place for private conversations, birthday parties and boisterous reunions with long-lost friends.
Service
The service is immaculate and the waiters are very attentive. We were promptly served with water upon placing our order. Unlike other restaurants that charge for plain water, Staple Dough serves it for free when dining in.
Food
At Staple Dough, it’s impossible not to overdose on carbs, because the handmade pasta is shaped to divine standards.

The truffle fries are a delicious appetizer for more palate enticing food ahead.
Deep fried to crispy perfection with Kombu seaweed, truffle slices is sprinkled over the dish, adding a subtle earthy nuance. Served with a generous topping of Italian cheese, the truffle friends is an impeccable snack that’s often finished in minutes.

We couldn't resist the Seafood Bisque soup either - a marine delight simmered in shellfish broth. Infused with luxurious cream for a richer taste, this tomato-based soup is generously filled with squid, clams, and shrimp for an even more intense taste.
The Pork Ragu Pappardelle is their piece de resistance, where the pork soaks in the rich flavors of luscious read wine and a tomato based sauce after 12hours of simmering. The pasta’s thick texture is coated in natural flavors, while the ragu sauce is packed with a rich, meaty flavor that is not too overbearing.

The Pesto Pappardelle is another winner, showcasing a divine balance of nutty nuances and zesty freshness. The combination of herbaceous basil, garlic and a medley of nuts clings to each strand of this wide, ribbon pasta, offering decent bite and texture.

Carbonara lovers will be delighted by the Pici Carbonara. The Pici is rare pasta, given that each strand is painstakingly rolled by hand, making it a prized and time consuming dish to make. A runny kampong egg sits in center of the creamy egg sauce, cooked to perfection at 63 degree. Rounded off with a hint of spice from Sarawak black pepper, this fusion dish is simply unforgettable!

Seafood Aglia Olio is the most expensive pasta at RM56. We wished there were more seafood in this dish. Nevertheless, the 4 pieces of squid, 3 pieces of clam, and 2 tiger prawns were fresh and bode well with the herbaceous garlic sauce.
For wine lovers, revel in a curated selection of old and new world wines sourced from South Australia to the charming vineyards of Spain’s Rioja.
In addition, this pet friendly restaurant dedicates its al fresco area for owners to dine with their four-legged friends.
The food presentation is pristine, while the tiramisu caps the end to a delightful meal. This heavenly dessert is a fluffy mixture of airy mascarpone cream and sponge cake fingers, dipped in premium rum.
Pricing
With an average price of RM40 per dish, StapleDough may not be your staple go-to eatery for every dining.
But it’s a splurge that don’t have to justify given the unique ingredients, earning it the title as a gourmet specialist serving one of the best pasta in Petaling Jaya!.
