Established in 2020 and founded by Daniel Lim, Da Niu Bake Pie was born out of necessity due to career relocations, and inspired by his wife's craving for flatbread.

When 51-year-old Daniel Lim found himself jobless after a company restructuring, he was forced to relocate back to Malaysia. Leaving his job as a Quantity Surveyor in Shanghai, he pursued his passion for cooking and turned his hobby into a profitable business.

Upon embarking on life in Malaysia, his wife, who he met and wed in China missed the mui choy baked pie, her favorite snack from China.

The onset of Covid was an opportune time for Daniel to cook for his family and experiment with different recipes of Chinese flatbread. After many attempts to refine his flatbread recipe, he won his wife's stamp of approval.

The success culminated in the official opening of his inaugural Da Niu Bake Pie outlet in Kepong, and the rest is history,

Over the years, Daniel expanded his offerings from selling only baked pies to new dishes such as homemade chilli oil, hurry mee, and scallion noodles.

Da Niu Bake Pie is an inclusive family business inspired by challenges and family ties. In fact, his second daughter Esther designs the t-shirts, shopping bags, food packaging, and other merchandise on sale.

The restaurant is now Esther’s canvas for creativity while she pursues her degree an art school.

Its furniture flirts with light mahogany tones and a pseudo-marble cushion decorates each stool. The merchandise display occupies the center stage of the restaurant, creating an island that provokes visitors' inquisitiveness.

Shades of orange signage add a sense of vibrancy to this chic venue with hints of cheerful vibrancy set within a soothing ambiance. With comfy spots for solo and group diners, you’ll find regulars chatting away over baked pies, desserts, and ice cream here.

Parking at Da Niu Bake

As Da Niu Bake Pie SS2 is located along 4 shophouses in Chow Yang, Petaling Jaya, street parking is available but can be limited during lunch and dinner time,

With a growing legion of sterling restaurants and grocery stores to boot, be prepared to park along the curb side near the houses.

Service at Da Niu Bake

While we were under the impression that the baked pie would simply need to be heated up, boy were we wrong! Each flatbread is prepared once the orders are in, ensuring they are served straight out of the oven and piping hot.

Service is generally prompt and food is served within 15 minutes. Customers will need to scan the QR code menu to place orders and pay at the counter.

The baked pies are all the rage and a must-try at Da Niu Bake Pie.

The Spicy Lamb Flatbread is addictive, with a flavorful blend of tender lamb interspersed with thick sauce and a super crispy outer that seems more like biscuit than pie.

The flatbread-like pies are cooked in oversized clay ovens only once the orders are placed, thus preserving its crisp and is served straight out from the oven.

Cooked in oversized clay ovens upon ordering, this crispy-like naan is available in unique flavors like mui choy (preserved vegetable) pork, butter cinnamon, and scallion pie too.

Their dry mala noodles is a hearty dish that comes with 2 wantons, shredded chicken, half a hardboiled egg, and crispy fried fish.

The crispy fried fish has an irresistible umami, and if you wish to take it home, it’s sold at the counter. This dish is best paired with their spicy chili oil, where you can take your servings from the table at the back of the restaurant,

For vegetarians, you’ll find the vegetarian version in the scallion noodles, steeped in fragrant scallion oil.

This SS2 dessert shop is also known for its Red Bean Pie, another crispy indulgence that’s absolutely addictive. Paired with their Red Bean soup boiled with orange peel, its rich strikes a perfect harmony between texture and sweetness.

Wash it all down with a refreshing slurp of lemon oolong tea drink, or pair them with their unique ice cream flavors.

This dessert shop in Petaling Jaya boasts a shape-shifting menu that’s given a jolt of variety every now and then, keeping their army of regulars back for new creations.

Their latest culinary dessert, the yam and peanut tong sui (soupy dessert) is the perfect bowl of comfort to cap a peaceful meal.

Prices at Da Niu Bake Pie SS2

The bake pie ranges between RM8 to RM10 (if I recall correctly) and the price per bowl of noodles is not more than RM13. Given such reasonable prices and unique food, it’s not surprising to see the restaurant always occupied, with a steady stream of takeaway orders and Grab delivery boys waiting for their pickups.

Conclusion

Da Niu Bake Pie seems to know the recipe to succeed in the cut-throat, competitive food and beverage business.

A new item or two is introduced every other month, offering diners a reason to come back and discover more gourmet delights. Serving some of the best food in SS2, their relaxing ambiance, courteous service and a heavenly waft of lamb flat bread being baked intrigues customers into the outlet.

Da Niu Bake Pie has 2 outlets currently, one in SS2 and the other Kepong. They have set their sights on expanding by opening more outlets and kiosks, making their pies more accessible.
